The Kumasi City Mall (KCM) is a groundbreaking shopping center situated in Kumasi, Ghana. It stands as the city’s inaugural mall, representing a significant milestone in its commercial landscape. The development of Kumasi City Mall amounted to a substantial $95 million investment and required 24 months for its successful realization. This mall stands out as one of the largest in all of West Africa. It is owned by Delico Kumasi Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delico Property Investment Ghana Limited, the same entity behind the Achimota Retail Center and a major stakeholder in the West Hills Mall in Accra.
History
The project was officially inaugurated by the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II, on June 6, 2014. From that point, it took a dedicated 24 months to complete. The grand opening ceremony was initially slated for April 20, 2017, with Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II anticipated to officiate. However, the official opening was rescheduled to May 10, 2017. Later, on December 11, 2018, a section of the ceiling in the food court area experienced a partial collapse, just as the mall was preparing to commence its daily operations.
Management
The Kumasi City Mall is overseen by a Board of Directors composed of four members. Its day-to-day operations are managed by Broll Ghana Limited as the property managers, with AttAfrica Asset Managers serving as the Asset Managers.
Location
Situated in the Asokwa suburb of Kumasi, the mall stands at the convergence of Lake Bosomtwe Road, Yaa Asantewa Road, and Hudson Street. The expansive site encompasses 15.4 acres, hosting a gross lettable area of 18,500 square meters. For convenience, the Kumasi City Mall offers a generous parking capacity, providing over 1,000 bays both at ground level and within the basement.
